Since I, Ashleigh Carpenter have recently become engaged to Brett Campbell, I figured I better get going on a blog for us. Obviously, my last name isn't Campbell yet, but it will be on April 8, 2011. :)
I would like to share our engagement story...
On Saturday January 15, it was our one year since our first date. Brett told me that he had something planned, but it was a surprise. (Just to foreshadow, I had no idea I was getting engaged that night after he cleverly fabricated many ways to fool me). Back to the story...when Brett came to pick me up, he showed up with a beautiful dozen red roses. These roses smelled so good! He said that this was my first surprise and that the second was recreating our first date. Just so everyone knows, our first date was eating at Cafe Rio, sipping on Hot Chocolate from Starbucks, and then watching Sherlock Holmes.
Brett and I began our night. We drove to Lake Forest to eat at Cafe Rio and ordered the same meal from a year ago. I had to get my pork quesadilla while Brett ordered his two pork enchiladas. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner talking and laughing. After Cafe Rio, we headed back up to Brea to get some hot chocolate from Starbucks. As we were driving, I began to notice that Brett's hands were getting clammy. I asked him why this was and he totally covered it up with me believing him.
After we finished Starbucks, Brett told me we needed to go get my roses and show them to his mom. I found this a strange request, but I went with it. We needed to stop by his parents house anyway to grab the movie and they were supposedly having a big bbq. So we get my roses and then head to the parents.
As we walk into his parents home, I noticed how extremely quiet it was at the Campbell home. I thought that was strange because it's always a party in that house. Brett tells me that his family must be outside even though it's 9 pm.
I'm standing behind Brett when he opens up the back door and I see 500 tea light candles on the grass that say "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" I was in such complete shock that Brett had to push me out the door. I get outside and see his family smiling with their cameras and then I look back towards the grass. Then before I know it, Brett is kneeling on one knee, almost grabbing the wrong hand, and asking me to marry him. Of course, I said, "Yes!" I tell you, because I was in so much shock, I was shaking. After five minutes of pictures and hugs, I realized I hadn't even looked at my ring yet. This ring is gorgeous! I am so in love with my round cut diamond with channel diamonds. It is such a beautiful ring! Good job Brett for picking out a beautiful ring and a romantic proposal!
I can't even tell you how happy I am. I am so excited to be marrying my Bretty! He is someone that I look up to and makes me always want to be the better person. I love him and am so excited to be sharing the eternities with him. We will be getting married on April 8, 2011 in the San Diego LDS Temple. :)
Right after the proposal
