London Day 5 April 11, 2012 My Favorite Day

This was my favorite day of the entire trip even though every day was fantastic.  I am a big history person so I love castles, palaces, anything about the royalty, and mysteries.  As you will see, this day was jam packed with that.  We began our day taking the train to the city of Eton which is home to Windsor Castle.  After spending a couple hours touring, we walked around Eton (a beautiful and quaint European city) found a candy shop and stopped to have tea (herbal tea, of course) and a scone.
Windsor Castle

Isn't this a beautiful sight?

We toured the castle, but you are not allowed to take any pictures.  It was definitely cool inside!

Didn't know I was in this picture, but more guards

St. George's Chapel (Queen Mum is buried in there)

Eton has the cute charm of a European city

We got back on the train and headed to Hampton Court Palace.  This was my favorite!  The beauty of the palace and grounds had me in awe.  We toured the palace (many rooms and exhibits) and then sat on a bench eating a snack in the magnificent gardens.  I could have sat there all day with Brett with the warmth of the sunshine that was peaking out past the clouds.  After sitting for a half hour, we toured the rest of the gardens and made our way to the wilderness which is where the famous maze is.  I mastered that maze (by quickly glancing and memorizing the map) with only one dead end until we arrived in the center.

Once again, you could take pictures except certain places inside.

Made it to the center

Brett made it too

Cute poodle as we were leaving

A shot of the Thames River from Hampton Court Palace

A snack for the train ride back into Central London (not my favorite)

We made our way back to Harrod's to find something to eat.

We ate Game Pie (delicious) as well as other pastry items and veggies.

After eating at Harrod's, Brett and I took the tube back to Tower Hill which is where the Jack the Ripper Guided Tour meets.  For those of you that need a little history on Jack the Ripper, he was a serial killer back in the late 1800's that was never caught.  He murdered five victims which were all women and prostitutes.  These murders always happened late at night/early morning and were very gruesome. Our tour guide even gave us some of the top three suspects by the Metropolitan Police and Scotland Yard.  They believe that one of the suspects was a doctor (the murders were so gruesome and the cuts were so detailed like a surgeon) who was found floating in the river a week later after the fifth and final murder.  Our tour guide was great and had a lovely personality.  Brett and I felt very informed and thought it was scary, but cool to be taken to the places where the victims were found.  For those of you interested, I definitely recommend this tour.

It's popular, but we split up into two groups

There's the Tower of London again

There's our guide

The church that the ladies of the night all hung out by in the 1800's (why would they choose a church?)

One of the victims was found there

Another one was found here!

Hope you enjoyed my favorite day!
